Wenger's divine intervention

With deadline day looming and with first choice striker out to New Year's, with only one other true striker in the squad, Arsenal fans were hoping for a minor miracle signing from Wenger.

Instead of taking part in the mad rush of deadline day, Wenger spent his time in Italy meeting the pope and to referee a charity match. In a moment that can be described as either divine intervention or a panic buy Ivan Gazidis waited for Wenger to leave the country before signing for Man United and England international forward Danny Welbeck for a deal believed to be worth £16 million.

Could this be Arsenal’s answer to their striker problem? As before this transfer, Sanogo an inexperienced striker was their only true forward because of Giroud's injury, other than this playing someone out of position would be their only other option.

Welbeck now has the perfect opportunity to make an immediate impact tomorrow against City finally playing down the middle instead of out wide. Only time can tell if Welbeck will be a wonder move or an expensive flop.

Where do you think Welbeck’s plays best? As a wide man or a central striker?
