Martin Rodriguez, agent of rumoured Manchester United target Kevin Mendez, has confirmed interest from a number of Italian, Spanish and English clubs.

"Kevin is being chased by top teams in Italy, Spain and of course England. We get many requests from there for information about Kevin. Many scouts are watching Kevin play games in Uruguay for Penarol, mostly from England."

The 18-year-old Uruguay U20 international has been linked with a potential move to Manchester United for a number of weeks from various sources and is now attracting attention from a number of Europes elite. Mendez currently plays for Penarol in Uruguay's Primera Division and is highly-rated by his agent and club. Rodriguez sang the players praises whilst speaking to Sport Witness:

"We know top clubs from Europe are looking for Kevin. We know the importance of Kevin, he is one of the best 18 year olds in South America."

One known issue which was thought to be a potential stumbling block in any move to Manchester United was the players work permit issues, with it becoming increasingly difficult for clubs in Europe to buy young South American talent. This potential banana skin has since been dismissed by the players agent, confirming that Mendez now holds an Italian passport, meaning he can move freely to clubs throughout Europe.

"Kevin has just become an Italian citizen so this is very important for him. Kevin now has freedom to move within the EC so it is important for him and helps with Europe."

With Mendez' work permit issues resolved, United may now face a battle to land their target, with other clubs ramping up their interests in the Uruguayan.
