Warburton ready to settle a score

Mark Warburton says his Brentford squad have "unfinished business" with Middlesbrough ahead of their meeting in the Championship play-offs.

The Bees were thumped 4-0 on Teesside in September in what Warburton describes as their worst display of the season.

They put in a far better performance at home to Boro in January but were still beaten by a Grant Leadbitter penalty, so Warburton is hoping it will be third time lucky when the sides meet at Griffin Park for the first leg on Friday night.

"Middlesbrough are a formidable opponent, they have many talented players and are well managed," said the Bees boss.

"But Griffin Park is a tough place to come to, under the lights, with a passionate Bees crowd. Hopefully we can create the right environment, then can we deliver a good performance?

"The game in January we played really well, created lots of chances and in one incident they got a penalty. But the away game was the worst 45 minutes of the season. We have some unfinished business there as a squad. But never under estimate a talented opponent. "

Warburton was criticised for not bringing in reinforcements to boost his squad in January, but has thus far been proved correct after the Bees overcame a slight late blip in form to clinch fifth spot on the final day of the season.

"That has been the subject of a lot of debate," he added. "But you keep a tight squad. Look at Burnley last year and how many players they used.

"Many teams have followed suit. The smaller, tighter squad has that unity, that hunger about it. But too many players, not playing, gives you a problem with dissatisfaction in the ranks. It's human nature.

"We have more than a good enough squad here and we are looking forward to the next fixture."
