Walsall leapfrog Burton to take League One top spot

Walsall replaced Burton at the top of Sky Bet League One on goal difference with a deserved 2-0 win in front of the biggest league gate of the season at the Banks's Stadium.

Goals by 19-year-old Liam Kinsella and a last-minute penalty from Tom Bradshaw consigned the Brewers to their first defeat in six games.

Burton made the brighter start to the game with the powerful Lucas Akins causing problems for the home defence, and Walsall skipper Adam Chambers was warned for a lunging tackle on him.

The Saddlers began to find their touch, however. and Jon McLaughlin had to move quickly to smother the ball at the feet of Reece Flanagan in the 20th minute, then the goalkeeper did well to tip away a fierce drive from Romaine Sawyers.

Walsall took the lead in the 36th minute, Rico Henry finding Sawyers whose diagonal pass was driven low into the net by Kinsella - his first goal for the club.

Burton piled on the pressure in the second half but could not find a way through, and when John Mousinho handled a flick from Sawyers in the 90th minute Bradshaw buried his ninth goal of the season from the penalty spot.
