Van Gaal: Falcao Better Striker Than Rooney

Wayne Rooney's position as striker in jeopardy after Van Gaal admits that he has not been satisfied with Captain’s role as striker.

The Dutchman made his comments after Manchester United’s shock 5-3 defeat from Leicester City where Rooney played behind behind van Persie and Falcao.

Van Gaal suggested that Falcao could do a better job than Rooney in a striker position.

“We have played well, but can improve, and I was not so satisfied with Rooney as a striker and Mata as midfielder,” Van Gaal said after the defeat. “That is why I changed. Rooney can play in more positions, he’s a multi-functional player and I have tried him in a striker’s position. He has played well, but not spectacular. Falcao is a striker and I think he can do it better.”

Even though Rooney seems to be close to losing his preferred position as striker, Van Gaal will definitely include him in his line-up. The Red’s manager explains that as captain, Rooney “has more privileges” than the rest of the other players. “My captain shall always play”, explains Van Gaal.

Rooney will probably be seen playing in midfield as Falcao is expected to take his role as striker.
