Former France striker David Trezeguet, 36, will continue his career in India, the new Indian Super League announced on Wednesday.

The new championship announced on Twitter that Trezeguet will be a 'marquee' signing for FC Pune City, who will be coached by the Italian Franco Colomba, the former boss of Napoli and Parma.

"FC Pune City also announce its marquee player. and it is David Trezeguet, the French striker", read a tweet posted by @IndSuperLeague.

Trezeguet, the former Monaco and Juventus striker and a member of the France sides that won the 1998 World Cup and Euro 2000, was most recently with River Plate in Argentina.

He follows in the footsteps of another former France star, Robert Pires, ex-Sweden and Arsenal midfielder Freddie Ljungberg and Spain World Cup-winning left-back Joan Capdevila, who have all already agreed to move to the new league.

The championship will involve eight teams from eight different cities, with each side being able to recruit one 'marquee' name.

The competition is set to start in October.
