The latest gossip and rumours from the newspapers and online:

Jose Mourinho may swoop for free agent ZLATAN IBRAHIMOVIC if he is named Manchester United manager, as is widely anticipated, according to the Guardian. It is believed Ibrahimovic's preferred destination is Old Trafford, where he may link up with Mourinho again after the pair worked together at Inter Milan.

The Daily Mail is reporting JUAN MATA is keen to patch up his differences with Mourinho in order to remain at United, having being sold by the Portuguese to the Red Devils 18 months ago when the pair were at Chelsea.

Everton's hopes of luring RONALD KOEMAN to Goodison Park appear doomed, with the Dutch manager keen on signing a new contract with Southampton, says the Daily Star, which is also reporting Arsenal were keeping tabs on the 53-year-old as a potential successor to Arsene Wenger.

Everton have slapped a £65million price tag on wantaway striker ROMELU LUKAKU, who is apparently keen on moving back to Chelsea, reports the Daily Express. However, the Blues, who sold Lukaku to the Toffees for £28m in 2014, are willing to dig their heels in over the fee.

Former Chelsea boss ROBERTO DI MATTEO is expected to be unveiled as manager of Aston Villa by the end of the week, according to the Daily Telegraph, while new owner Dr Tony Jiantong Xia is planning to dismiss the club's entire scouting staff.
