Tottenham is a club going places – Kyle Walker will be there every step of the way

DON’T you just love the way Tottenham, under forward-thinking Mauricio Pochettino, are going about their business?

Investing in the amazing plethora of young talent they already have at their disposal rather than gambling millions on overseas players whose bank balance is bigger than their potential return is the way forward for Spurs.

Kyle Walker became the latest player to put pen to paper on an extended deal, even though he was safe and sound under the terms of his existing contract.

Christian Erikssen, Dele Alli, Eric Dier and Danny Rose – along with Tom Carroll and Harry Winks – have all done likewise and they are all united in the view.this club is going places.

Spurs were in contention for the Premier League title until the last few games of last season when their expertly calculated campaign blew up in their faces.

Some managers would have panicked; others would have gone to the board and said ‘I need new players who can last the pace’. Not Pochettino.

Yes, he’s spent a few quid on the likes of Moussa Sissoko, Vincent Janssen, Kevin Nkoudou and Victor Wanyama but Poch’s priority has been signing up a glut of homegrown talent on extended four and five-year deals.

Fair play to the Tottenham boss, who had a similar philosophy at Southampton, and he should be applauded for acknowledging and respecting the talent that lies closer to home than most other clubs seem to appreciate.

Pochettino has been a breath of fresh air and it is clear to one and all that he is building something special at the Lane ahead of their move to a new stadium.

International defender Walker, the best English right back in the Premier League by some distance, is delighted to have committed his future to the North London club until 2021.

It was a no-brainer as far as one of the ‘veterans’ of this vibrant Tottenham squad is concerned, and he said on the Spurs website: “We have a bright future here at Spurs.

"It is a great honour. I want to say a big thank you to the chairman and the manager for putting their faith in me.It is like my second home now and I am happy to commit my future to Tottenham Hotspur."
