It has been almost a month since Alan Pardew's departure for Crystal Palace and still Newcastle United is without a 'Head Coach'. However, in light of the positive developments in communication, and the recent interview with Lee Charnley, I for one am filled with a little optimism.
We, as NUFC fans, know the club has a policy regarding transfers and an overall plan regarding the nurturing of youth, one which I actually agree with, but I find the comments attributed to Mr Charnley in his interview with the Chronicle rather pleasing.
In it Mr Charnley emphasises the importance of taking time to appoint the right person in to the head coach role and that they have whittled down some 80 possible candidates leaving a handful they feel are ideally suited. I for one agree with this process and have faith that the club will appoint a successor to Pardew who has an excellent track record in developing players, both senior and otherwise, and who is creative, tactically sound and disciplined in their style of play.
Surely this can only be a good thing?
There are also comments regarding inactivity in the current transfer window, nothing new there, but surely it is the correct decision to wait until the new head coach is appointed before signing players when Charnley, Graham Carr and the new head coach can discuss what is perhaps needed to fit in with the coaches ideas on playing style and how to take the club forward.
Yes we are short in a few areas but there is no need to panic and a few injured players are on their way back which will surely benefit the team. If the new head coach, the one the club really want, is unavailable until the summer then so be it. I don't mind waiting a little longer for, hopefully, someone who is going to transform the team from junior level up to first team level and who is going to be given time to embed a new ethos around the club.
