Malcolm brace sends Blues through

Craig Malcolm's double helped Stranraer to a 2-0 win over Stenhousemuir in the first round of the Scottish League Cup.

Kieran Millar went close to opening the scoring for the visitors as he forced Conor Brennan into a fine save with just four minutes on the clock.

But Stranraer took the lead after 15 minutes when good work by winger Andy Stirling resulted in his pinpoint cross being headed home by Malcolm.

Stirling lacked composure as he sent a good opportunity over the bar for the home side and Jamie Barclay helped to keep the deficit to one as he saved efforts from Jamie Longworth and Scott Robertson.

The Blues booked their place in the second round when Malcolm added to his tally in stoppage time, finding space on the right-hand side before firing low across goal and into the bottom corner.
