Fleetwood have confirmed the appointment of Steven Pressley as their new manager.

The 41-year-old takes over at Highbury after Graham Alexander, another former Scotland international, was sacked six days ago following a 5-1 defeat at Gillingham.

Pressley has managed in League One before with Coventry but was dismissed after his 100th game in charge in February with the Sky Blues in the relegation zone.

Fleetwood posted on Twitter: "Steven Pressley has been confirmed as the Club's new first team manager. #codarmy."

Prior to his stint in the midlands the ex-Dundee United, Hearts and Celtic defender was in charge of Falkirk for three seasons having finished his playing career with the Bairns.

Alexander led Fleetwood to a top-10 finish in their maiden campaign in League One last term, but they are currently struggling in 23rd spot.
