Southampton prepare Charlie Austin swoop

Reports this morning suggest the Queens Park Rangers striker, who’s 17 goals for his club ultimately proved not enough to save them from relegation to the Championship has become a transfer target for the Saints.

A number of clubs, including Newcastle and West Brom are thought to be considering making an offer for the 25-year-old striker who has just one year remaining on his £28,000-per-week deal at Loftus Road. The player who was transferred from Burnley in 2013 for just £4million has refused to sign a new £60,000-per-week contract tabled in January and now QPR are resolved to losing the player in the summer.

In a report published by the Express, QPR are understood to want £14million for the player which looks to be good value if he continues to score the goals that have made him a favourite at Loftus Road. Given his stated desire to stay settled in the South it would seem that the Southampton would be favourites although it remains to be seen who else may enter the bidding with the close season fast approaching.

Austin has a fantastic goal record over the past few seasons and this has been the first season the player has proved himself in the Premier League having had four seasons in the Championship.
