Many prominent clubs take pride in their successful youth systems, perhaps none more than F.C Barcelona. The Catalan outfit’s youth system “La Masia” has produced some of the greatest footballers in the past decade. The list of a players graduating from the youth system includes names like Xavi Hernandez , Andres Iniesta , Sergio Busquets , Cesc Fabregas and a certain Lionel Andres Messi. FC Barcelona’s Champions League clash with Apoel seems to have given the cules another name to chant as their own.
Sergi Samper is new name on the lips of the Camp Nou audience and Barca fans worldwide. For fans who didn't quite find Barca’s 1-0 victory convincing , Samper’s performance in the game must have lead them to believe that they were watching someone who could go on to make it big.
For a defensive midfielder, who is just 19 year old Samper has shown tremendous technique, surprising level-headedness and strong positional. Samper made several crucial interceptions in his first match and looked a player who had been playing with the first team for years. His wide range of passing and ability to find space with ease were also notable ,as several FCB supporters have already begun comparing him with world class defensive medio Sergio Busquets.
While there is still a long long way to go Sergi Samper did enough to stand out in a team with the likes of Lionel Messi , Xavi ,Iniesta which makes the Cules believe that this might well be the “start of something beautiful”.
