Schweinsteiger becomes the top transfer target for Manchester United

With all the talk yesterday of Manchester United moving in on Morgan Schneiderlin it seems that he may only be a second choice should their move for German captain Bastian Schweinsteiger full through.

The 30-year-old midfielder has been at the heart of Bayern Munich and Germany for some years now and would bring that wealth of big game experience to a Manchester United side entering its second phase of redevelopment under Louis van Gaal.

The Dutch boss of United clearly thinks that the German is just the player he needs to get his team ticking next season even though he would not perhaps represent a long-term investment given his age.

A report in the Daily Star reveals via a starsport source that whilst the club are interested in Morgan he is only a second choice whilst the possibility of signing Schweinsteiger exists.

Schweinsteiger has won the Bundesliga title on eight occasions, the Champions League and a FIFA World Cup. The player has been with Bayern Munich from a youth in 1998, starting his senior career for Bayern Munich II before moving to the main squad in 2002. The midfielder is still considered one of the finest in the world with a great allround game that prompted Joachim Low to call him “the brain” of the national team.

The German has made 500 appearances of Bayern Munich and scored 67 goals.
