News this morning puts Daryl Janmaat in the frame for a switch to Anfield if reports are to be believed. The right-back is understood to be of interest as a replacement to Glen Johnson when his contract expires at the end of the season.

The Dutchman joined Newcastle from Feyenoord on a six-year-contract for £5million despite interest from Manchester United. The 25-year-old was selected by Louis van Gaal for the World Cup so it looked like the former Dutch boss would get him to join him at Old Trafford. The player looks like he will be subject to a bid in the summer according to reports, despite his lengthy Newcastle contact.

Glen Johnson has hinted at a Summer move after being unwilling to take a pay cut to his £120,000-per-week salary. When asked about his future the player admitted that no new talks had taken place and that a move abroad appealed.

“There’s no update. There have been no talks. At this point I have no idea (where I will be next season). I haven’t thought about it,” he said.

“I’ve got two months left here and we will see what happens after that. I’m just going to keep my head down and keep training.

“I do like the idea of going abroad. There have been talks. I’m still young and it would be great for the kids. But I’m not thinking about that at the moment, We will have to wait and see.”

Janmaat, who had made 63 league appearances for Feyenoord and 84 for Heerenveen has made a total of 30 appearances for the Magpies and could be an ideal replacement.
