Re-United: Moyes and Fellaini at Southampton a Possibility

David Moyes has already purchased Marouane Fellaini twice, could it be third time lucky if Moyes ends up at Southampton? With Pochettino having signed to Tottenham for 5 years, this makes the move for both Moyes and Fellaini a real possibility.

Fellaini enjoyed a talismanic role with Moyes at Everton however they both lacked the cutting edge to deliver under pressure at the Theatre of Dreams during last season. This week speculation has been rife that incoming manager Van Gaal is unlikely keep hold of Fellaini at Manchester United.

The Belgian will be seen as a liability and someone who lacks close control which is the hallmark of a Luis Van Gaal team.

Southampton chairman Krueger told BBC Radio Solent " We have the highest quality managers in Europe knocking on our door". He then promised the shortlist of managers will be made public to the media and fans very soon.

With David Moyes itching to get his career back on track, as a proud Scot he is unlikely to follow in the footsteps of Steve Mclaren and join what many consider an inferior league in Holland or even Turkey.

David Moyes won't look to escape via the back door but instead look to re-build his reputation in English football.

The only other option would be to once again "lock horns" with Guardiola in the Bundesliga, Germany. Moyes would've been mightily enouraged how under his stewardship Manchester United played against quality German opposition in this years Champions League. He may well take this road redemption.

With Southampton's incoming funds from transfers David Moyes would be given an opportunity to build during the mid to long-term and put his nightmare season behind him for good. As with all new managers, the challenge for any club will be for their fans to accept him.

Had he become available directly after his tenure at Everton he would have walked into most jobs outside of those clubs who play Champions League football in Italy, Spain and Germany.

One thing which David Moyes can offer Southampton after they lost Pochettino to Spurs, is stability. Difficult to say if stability plus the David Moyes brand of football is enough.

A significant portion of Everton fans have been scathing regarding how he held them back for many years.

From his point of view however, Manchester United offered David Moyes the managers post and within the Moyes camp this will count for a lot.

So is Southampton big enough for Moyes? It could well be under the current circumstances.

Shortly Southampton will anounce their shortlist and only then will we know if fans welcome him to the South coast with open arms. After witnessing a season of dynamic and attacking football some fans may need convincing.
