Reds given hope with Memphis denial

Liverpool were given a transfer lifeline after Memphis Depay denied reports that he travelled to Manchester to discuss a summer move but has stated his desire to move to a bigger club and league.

Depay is one of the most exciting young prospects in Europe who has scored 26 goals for PSV who have taken the Eredivisie title this season. PSV expect their man to move on to a big club in the summer but it remains to be seen where he will ultimately go.

It was reported last week that Depay had jetted to Manchester with his agent to discuss a deal for the 21-year-old but the player denied these reports in a recent post-match interview:

“There’s absolutely no truth in that,” he said. “I haven’t spoken to Manchester United.”

Asked if he expected to speak with any other clubs in the coming weeks, Depay said: “On that question, I am not going to comment. We shall see how things will go.

“It would be great to go to one of the big competitions this summer, but for now I don’t want to speak about that. These are my honest answers to you media guys.”

On the subject of a move to a big club he said: “If that would become reality, it would be fantastic. It is a dream to make a transfer with such a big impact.

“But I already said, there is a lot of speculation and a lot of stories, but I don’t know how things will work out, so let’s wait and see.”

Depay is rated at around £20million with interest from Premier League clubs as well as in mainland Europe to make the versatile winger/forward their player.
