The report claims that striker chasing Manchester United are in the market for a top class striker with Robin van Persie and Radamel Falcao set to be offloaded in the close season.

The report in the Metro claims that United will be delighted to hear that Cavani is looking to force a £55million move in the summer citing a Le Parisien interview with a close source.

“There is no question that he will not stay one more season if the sporting situation doesn't change. This is the bottom line,” a source close to Cavani told the daily French newspaper.

“Edinson understood that, in the interests of the team, he had to play on the right side and he has done that for two years now.

“But that’s not to say that the position suits him.

“He wants to play at the axis of the attack – his preferred position – and not only when Ibrahimovic is absent.

“He needs continuity in that position to fully express the qualities that made him a top scorer in Italy.”

It has been reported that Louis van Gaal will not take Monaco up on a permanent move for Radamel Falcao and that Robin van Persie may be offloaded in the summer. Cavani has been tipped as a potential replacement for Falcao.
