Real Madrid have decided to extend former Liverpool defender Alvaro Arbeloa's contract until 2016, it is the first time his contract has been revised since he joined Real Madrid in the summer of 2009.

Ever since Mourinho converted Sergio Ramos to centre back, Arbeloa is the only alternative in the right back position.

He is the only right-back Madrid have, and so Mourinho is keen to keep him. The European and World champion has found his way into the starting team, last season he played 38 matches, starting 37 of them.

Since Real Madrid are not looking for anyone for that position, it is possible Arbeloa will finish this year with more matches played.
