Queen of the South move into play-off places with win over St Mirren

Alex Harris' second-half goal took Queen of the South into the Ladbrokes Championship play-off places thanks to a 1-0 win over St Mirren.

In a goalless first half, Buddies keeper Jamie Langfield saved from Derek Lyle and Ryan Conroy - the latter also going close with a fantastic long-range effort - while Sean Kelly and Stephen Mallan tested home stopper James Atkinson.

Queen of the South went close either side of half-time, Lyle's header drawing another save from Langfield while Kyle Hutton nodded just over.

Jack Baird headed Mallan's corner over and Atkinson saved brilliantly from Calum Gallagher's header.

But the key goal came at the other end when Andy Murdoch teed up Harris, who picked his spot from just outside the penalty area to beat Langfield.

Keith Watson missed a close-range chance to equalise and David Clarkson hit the bar while Harris hit a post for Queens, Kelly blocking Russell's follow-up on the line. Atkinson denied Shankland a stoppage-time equaliser.
