Pulis happy with Berahino approach

West Brom boss Tony Pulis insisted Saido Berahino should still be honoured despite missing out on an England senior call-up.

The striker has been selected for Gareth Southgate's Under-21 side instead, after being with Roy Hodgson's senior squad in November.

He has scored four goals in his last seven games and 18 this season and - ahead of Saturday's trip to Manchester City - Pulis insisted he should not feel disappointed.

"I think if he gets selected for the Under-21s that's a big honour in itself," he said, with the Young Lions facing the Czech Republic and Germany later this month.

"The lad's been very good lately in his attitude and his approach to everything we have done has been excellent.

"He's not said anything to me about it. He has been carrying an injury for the past few weeks but has still shown great character."

Harry Kane earned his first call-up after 26 goals for Tottenham this term but with the European Under-21 Championship coming up Pulis believes the striker should be selected for Southgate's side in the summer.

He said: "I think England should pick their strongest team for every proper tournament but Roy will always have a young player who he thinks is ready for the senior squad."
