Premier League 2014/15 club preview: Hull

17 July 2014 09:27

A good season for Hull last year securing Premier League safety with over four weeks to go whilst qualifying for European football at the same time. So what do we expect in 2015? Well a club that is for most people, the ‘bookie’s favourite’ to go down, needs to push on from the success (and retaining your PL status is a success!) of last season.

Tom Huddlestone was their standout player, himself a casualty in Tottenham’s attempt to sign every player and their mother after selling Gareth Bale. In Huddlestone (when fit) they have a complete midfielder with the ability to unlock any defence.

They bolstered their attack with a couple of cute signings in Nikica Jelavic and Shane Long, not the most potent of forwards, but enough to help the Hull fans wipe away the smear left by Danny Graham’s acrimonious departure.

Linked with:

Charles N’Zogbia, Carl Jenkinson, Robert Snodgrass, Shola Ameobi.

So Who?

Well, unsurprisingly, there are a few Geordie’s being bandied about with cuddly Steve Bruce’s background in mind….which by the way, should not be far from people’s minds if the Newcastle job became available….could Bruce resist? A bit of pace in the midfield could be the answer and Charles N’Zogbia is a player who shoulda woulda coulda….but didn’t! Under the wise tutelage of Bruce, he could rely on Huddlestone to hold firm allowing him to shake off the shackles and start producing in a free role. Could be what Hull and Charles need.
