Premier League 2014/15 club preview: Everton

Phew. Old Bobby Martinez really shook of the blue cobwebs woven by the easily forgotten David Moyes. Unfortunately for Moyes, his tag of ‘doing well on a shoestring budget’ seems to have been shown up as transfer ineptitude. A few key loan signings in the form of Lukaku, Deulofeu and Barry helped cement their top six status whilst amassing their highest ever points tally in the Premier League.

Having signed Barry recently, they are sure to lose Lukaku both on a permanent and loan basis this year, meaning a severe lack of options up front. The emergence of Ross Barkley should mean more PL appearances this year and if he continues to grow as his career promises, then he could be the lynchpin of all things attacking at Goodison.

Linked with:

Romelu Lukaku, Jack Rodwell, Lacina Traore, Yannick Bolasie, Enner Valencia

So Who?

With Lukaku’s price tag likely to be an issue (as well as wages), Valencia could be fit for the role. Another player who had a decent World Cup but plies his trade in the Mexican Premier Division, he bagged 18 goals in 23 games. With Mexican football not being readily available to watch, the standard is unclear. Only the power of a few online video clips and a few phone calls is what I had to feed off…and we all remember what happened there, don’t we Mr Souness!
