Oliver Hawkins at the double as Portsmouth beat MK Dons

Oliver Hawkins bagged a brace to send Portsmouth on their way to a comfortable 2-0 victory over MK Dons at Fratton Park.

The home side started brightly and had their first chance in the 10th minute when Kyle Bennett's cross went just inches past the oncoming Jamal Lowe.

Hawkins then fired Pompey into an early lead four minutes later when he smashed his effort into the roof of the net from close range after being picked out by Matty Kennedy.

MK Dons had their first real chance in the 40th minute when a Christian Burgess slip allowed Osman Sow to run in on goal but the striker was denied by a last-ditch tackle from Matt Clarke.

And the visitors were then punished on the stroke of half-time as Lowe won the ball back before finding Hawkins who brushed his effort past Lee Nicholls.

MK Dons had a chance to peg a goal back in the 71st minute after a goalmouth scramble but Sow was unable to prod the ball past Luke McGee.
