Vale miss chance to pull away from relegation zone

Port Vale missed the chance to distance themselves from the relegation zone as they were held 1-1 by Bristol Rovers at Vale Park.

A Bob Harris own-goal had put Rovers behind, but a fine goal from Billy Bodin secured the visitors a share of the spoils to leave the Valiants without a win in seven.

After a goalless first period, Vale took the lead nine minutes into the second half when Harris attempted to clear Kiko's low cross, but only succeeded in slicing the ball past his own keeper.

But Rovers were level after 78 minutes when Bodin worked himself some space on the edge of the Vale box and fire an unstoppable shot past Leonardo Fasan into the top left corner.

The away side had almost gone in front themselves after 48 minutes when Chris Lines' charging run left him with only Fasan to beat, but he fired just wide from a tight angle.

Vale almost snatched a 90th-minute winner when Callum Guy latched onto a through ball, but he could not lift the ball over Joe Lumley.
