Shaun Whalley rescues point as Shrewsbury remain unbeaten at lowly Plymouth

Shrewsbury maintained the only unbeaten record in the Football League thanks to Shaun Whalley's 78th-minute leveller in a 1-1 League One draw at struggling Plymouth.

Walley sent a superb 20-yard shot into the far corner and out of the reach of goalkeeper Kyle Letheren to clinch a point.

Plymouth playmaker Graham Carey had scored a brilliant 58th-minute solo goal to put the basement side 1-0 up against the pace setters.

Carey swept forward, beating defenders on the way before letting fly with a rising drive from the edge of the box that flew in off the post and gave stopper Dean Henderson no chance.

Argyle had the better first-half opportunities, notably when Carey's dipping 25-yard free-kick required scooping to safety by Shrews keeper Henderson.

Henderson also spilled a speculative 37th-minute Carey angled drive while Antoni Sarcevic spun on Carey's cross from the right to volley just over at the far post.

Unmarked central defender Yann Songo'o had the clearest opportunity to break the deadlock but headed wide from Carey's corner.
