Pique faces vital season at Barcelona

Last season and then the World Cup both failed to show Gerard Pique in a good light. His form as Barcelona failed to win a trophy in 2013-14 was at best inconsistent. Then some disastrous performances from Piques Spain in Brazil meant an early exit. After trophies galore and credit as a excellent 'footballing centre half', the last year has been a low. Now be must get his form back, and sharpish and make sure he is an integral part of a new era for both club and country.

Departing Barcelona this summer was Captain fantastic Carles Puyol. A great servant and someone who made up for his limitations at times with hard work. Arguably the opposite of Pique. The two - when Puoyl didn't suffer with injuries - formed a great partnership. Now Spaniard Pique must match his undoubted talent with the desire of the Retired Puyol. Indeed, New Barca boss Luis Enrique has already spelt out his expectations to the 27 Year old. Some shenanigans in Pre Season didn't please Enrique, before he left him out of the team for the First La Liga game.

With the signing of new Defenders and a new Barca being built by a strong minded Manager, the La Masia graduate is no longer as indispensable. To be fair, on his First start of the campaign against Villarreal, he played well. Now to make it a regular thing and get his consistency.
