Turgott gives Sky Blues lift

Blair Turgott fired Coventry closer to Sky Bet League One survival as his first goal for the club earned a vital 1-0 win at Peterborough.

Substitute Turgott, snapped up by the Sky Blues in February following his release from West Ham, coolly slotted past Peterborough goalkeeper Ben Alnwick in the 70th minute after a shot from fellow substitute Sanmi Odelusi had spun up off a defender into his path.

Odelusi looked unlucky not to earn a penalty moments later before a full-stretch Dominic Samuel could only hit the outside of a post after being picked out by Turgott's delivery late on.

But one goal was enough to complete a hat-trick of away wins as Tony Mowbray's men moved three points clear of the danger zone.

It was a clash of few goalscoring chances with captain Jack Payne posing the biggest threat for Posh as the home side suffered only a second defeat under caretaker boss Dave Robertson to drop out of the play-off places.

Midfielder Payne saw a first-half shot deflected narrowly wide before he fired into the side-netting early in the second period.

Peterborough's new loan signing Luke Williams saw a fierce half-volley beaten away by Lee Burge before Luke James was denied by the Sky Blues goalkeeper soon after Posh had fallen behind.
