Partick Thistle boss pleased with professional cup win but wanted more goals

Partick Thistle boss Alan Archibald believed his team should have scored more goals after they eased to a 4-0 victory over Highland League side Formartine United in the William Hill Scottish Cup.

A Chris Erskine double and a Steven Lawless strike gave the Jags a deserved 3-0 half-time lead, with Abdul Osman completing the rout after the break.

The visitors rarely threatened and Thistle had several chances to add to their four-goal tally.

Archibald said: "It was a very professional job. We picked a side to go and do a professional job and I think we've done that.

"There's always going to be a slip-up in every round - it always happens. Somebody always drops by the wayside and it was important it wasn't us and getting the goal from the set-play probably settled any early nerves if there was any.

"The only negative in the second half - credit to the opponents as well, they're hard to break down - but I thought we tried to walk it in and score the perfect goal second half, and that was the only negative in the game for us."

Formartine manager Kris Hunter praised the Ladbrokes Premiership opposition as his part-time team exited the competition.

Hunter said: "We were well beaten by a quality team and we just struggled to get near them with their movement off the ball and rotation in midfield and they're by far a superior team than us.

"It was very difficult and giving away the cheap goals that we did didn't make it any easier. That was disappointing.

"Give Partick credit. They put out their first team and even the way they went about their business I thought it was first class. It was just too much for us."
