After the exploits of last season, expectations and belief will be high at Crystal palace going into their second season in England's top league. Manager Tony Pulis knows how to get a side functioning and has definitely managed that at Selhurst Park. However, for the club to keep progressing and avoid the possible 'second season syndrome', finding a Goalscorer will be key.
Last season, the predominantly used Forwards at the club were loanee Cameron Jerome - Two Goals and ex-Arsenal Frontman Marouane Chamakh who got just FiveStrikes. Both showed their worth to the team and have workman like qualities. However, Palace can't continue to scrape one nil wins for a whole campaign - even their well organised side can't keep not conceding every game. Youngster Dwight Gayle got amongst the goal tally late on in the campaign, as did Glenn Murray after returning from injury. The former has great potential it must be said, whilst the latter should get a fair amount. To expect them to manage the pressure and be solely responsible as goalscoring Frontmen is probably asking a bit much.
Many will say that it's not easy finding a Regular Scorer and for good value, but there are plenty who could be the answer within The Eagles range. For instance, Watford's Troy Deeney has been linked with Premiership clubs and could be the type of Frontman needed. The jump from Championship is great, no doubting that, but Deeney for example can combine team-work and goals. Much like when Tony Pulis was at Stoke, he brought Jonathan Walters in from Ipswich. The jury was out on him, but he proved himself and scored some vital goals.
If Palace can add more potency from a Forward to their side, a top half finish is well within their reach.
