Ten-man Oldham move off bottom of table with dramatic victory over Peterborough

Ten-man Oldham moved off the bottom of League One with a dramatic 3-2 victory over Peterborough.

The managerless Latics, under caretaker boss Richie Wellens following John Sheridan's departure earlier this week, survived a late onslaught to stun their high-flying opponents.

Oldham led on 51 minutes when Jack Byrne's piledriver was saved by goalkeeper Jonathan Bond, only for Eoin Doyle to pounce on the rebound from six yards.

Posh levelled within seven minutes as Marcus Maddison raced behind the home defence and was fouled in the box by Brian Wilson. The defender received a straight red card, while Maddison converted his penalty via the crossbar.

Home stopper Johnny Placide made a double save from Idris Kanu and Maddison before also beating away Ricky Miller's shot.

Oldham regained their lead in the 80th minute, with Doyle setting up Dan Gardner for a superb 12-yard finish.

And it was 3-1 five minutes later as Doyle fired in his second from Abdelhakim Omrani's low cross,

Posh's Jack Marriott forced home an injury-time corner, but heroic Oldham defending saw them close out victory.
