Carroll heroics deny Latics

Notts County goalkeeper Roy Carroll produced a fantastic save to deny Oldham's Conor Wilkinson a certain winner in the final minute as his side held on for a 0-0 draw.

Wilkinson went on a mazy run deep into stoppage time and unleashed a powerful shot that was destined for the bottom corner, but Carroll brilliantly saved low to his left.

The Latics came to Meadow Lane boasting a five-match unbeaten run but even though they welcomed back top scorer Jonathan Forte chances were at a premium.

A solitary goalmouth scramble on the half-hour mark in the home side's penalty area was the only the action worth mentioning in a dour first half.

Wilkinson failed to hit the target early in the second period after a blocked Forte effort fell kindly into his path, while County looked to the substitutes' bench for some inspiration.

The introduction of Shaun Harrad and Garry Thompson on the hour-mark galvanized their attack and Zeli Ismail immediately went close, firing just over the crossbar.

But Oldham ended the stronger as substitute Danny Philliskirk squandered two late chances, before Carroll earned County a point by denying Wilkinson.
