Carter blow for Cobblers

Darren Carter is suspended for Northampton's Capital One Cup tie at home to MK Dons.

The debutant midfielder, a summer signing from Cheltenham, was given his marching orders during Saturday's 1-0 defeat at York having received two bookings and will now serve a one-match ban.

Manager Aidy Boothroyd's problems do not stop there, though, with influential duo Clive Platt (calf) and Chris Hackett (hamstring) still unavailable despite closing in on their respective returns to training.

The Cobblers are also without Lewis Hornby (back) as well as long-term absentees Kelvin Langmead (knee) and Alex Nicholls (broken leg).

Karl Robinson will give the young players at MK Dons a chance to impress.

The Dons boss is set to give the likes of Tom Flanagan, Ben Reeves and Dele Ali run outs in the first round tie at Sixfields on Tuesday night.

"I will make a couple of changes. I want to give some of the kids another chance but I'm still going to put out a team that I feel is capable of winning the game," Robinson told the club's official website.

Forwards Dean Bowditch (groin) and Daniel Powell, both of whom missed the League One opener away at Shrewsbury on Saturday, will remain on the sidelines.
