No Special Move for Wayne Rooney

The Special One, back at Stamford Bridge for a second spell, intended to further beef up his roster by launching an audacious move for Manchester United’s superstar Wayne Rooney whose extended run of uncertainty and discontent at Old Trafford continues to link him to transfer speculations.

While Mourinho did confirm his intentions of bringing the former Everton player to the Blues, United are not budging an inch from their determination to hold on to the disgruntled star. The Special One does not shy away from making candid statements and he was at it again in Bangkok while speaking to the press after the game against the Singha All-Stars.

Though there were rumours of a player switch involved in the official bid between the clubs, Mourinho spoke on the contrary and claimed that a cash-only deal was made to United. The prospect of Chelsea welcoming another super star to their team would be a scary prospect for other teams of the Premier League vying to compete for the top spot next season and Mourinho has been making the right moves in the summer by signing promising young players like Schurrle and van Ginkel.

United’s continued resistance to losing Rooney might be understandable as the player is still a class apart and has been at the forefront of the club’s goal scoring before the arrival of van Persie last year. But with the depth of striker options available to Moyes in Welbeck and Chicarito – two brilliant players with bright futures at the club – letting Rooney go might not be a bad option.

As the Rooney-saga continues to unfold and with the Premier League due to begin in exactly a month to this day, the drama can only get better if the highly rated striker ends up in London (hopefully on the Northern side of it)!
