Outspoken Montpellier president Louis Nicollin has questioned Remy Cabella's decision to join Newcastle.
The France midfielder completed his move to St James' Park at the weekend almost six months after the Magpies first tried to sign him.
But Nicollin, who adopted an uncompromising stance in January, was less than impressed with Cabella's decision to head for Tyneside.
He told Foot Mercato: "He wanted to go. I wasn't happy, but I told him, 'Congratulations'.
"In England, there is Arsenal, Manchester City, Manchester United, which are above Newcastle, but Newcastle is a club with a lot of French. He likes them, so great.
"Personally, I would not go to Newcastle. But hey, I'll see him when he plays against a club in London!
"He has what he wants, fine, we'll see. But in any case, he has the ability to succeed in England, that's for sure.
"He is frail, but he's hard to catch."
Montpellier initially demanded 15 million euros - around £11.8million - for Cabella, but sources on Tyneside insist Newcastle paid just a little more than £7million.
However, Nicollin claimed he got full value for the player.
He said: "It was not the 15 million euros, but it is not far."
Nicollin's comments will come as little surprise to anyone who has followed his relationship with the Magpies.
He branded Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa "an ass" for signing for the club and warned Cabella in January that he would be "bored s***less" in Newcastle.
