Newcastle United risk alienating the Toon faithful unless things change at St James' Park

Who ever thought that a journey from Newcastle to Croydon could have such a massive affect on 52,405 people? In the case of Alan Pardew it has. Newcastle United is a shambles. Despite record gains Mike Ashley still treats his club as a business, and in terms of capital a very reserved and strategic one. Newcastle fans have not and will never warm to this way of ownership and in their current situation why should they?

With a stadium capacity larger than the likes of Liverpool and Manchester City, and a fan base arguably as loyal and more something has got to give. Recent form has pushed them into relegation worry, although they should be safe, and the players are not performing, as they should be. I heard on the radio today from several fans that their only good players are Jack Colback, Daryl Janmaat and Jonas Guttierez. So what exactly has happened with the Taylor’s, other than injury, Papiss Cisse, Fabricio Coloccini, Moussa Sissoko and Sammy Ameobi? Sissoko has been reckless. The Taylor’s may never recover, Cisse is hot and cold and Sammy Ameobi is not getting the service. But, generally the players have lost their drive.

John Carver, a proven behind the scenes manager should have never been appointed. He is part of the old Pardew regime. A manager such as the likes of Jurgen Klopp needs to be contacted by the board if the Magpies are ever to reach the summit of their potential. But, such an appointment looks highly unlikely under the club’s current ownership. Former Newcastle hard man, Lee Bowyer, has suggested to talkSPORT that Steve McClaren would be the perfect fit. I tend to completely disagree. Other than a great league title with FC Twente and a League Cup with Middlesbrough he is also largely unproven and similar to the likes of Pardew, who has won nothing.

I do not know what the future hold but the Newcastle faithful will only stay as such for a short period of time unless there is a shakeup in the near future, otherwise relegation certainly beckons.
