Newcastle striker turned down Real Madrid and Barcelona

Few dare to say no to world giants like these two Spanish club. Yet, Ayoze Perez did it, later to join Newcastle.

21-year-old from Tenerife arrived to St. James' Park in early June for a €2 million fee. Pardew's team should be happy to have signed the youngster, with a rough start in the league and only two wins from nine matches.

Perez enjoyed Segunda Division in a three-year period with the Canary Islands squad. During that time, the forward scored 17 goals and ensured a mid-table place for the seniors of Tenerife.

‘Yes, there was interest from Barcelona and Real Madrid,’ confirmed the Spaniard.

Some Portuguese pages said there was also a slight interest from Porto, who eventually opted for Vincent Aboubakar.

Obviously, the Spain U21 player was realistic and had known Madrid or Barcelona move would bring reserve team matches or loans.

‘We had to consider the different options and I finally decided to come to Newcastle.’

He only started the last Premier League match from the first minute. And surprise, surprise, the fans were screaming in the 58th with Ayoze début goal. Newcastle have won their second (in a row) game so far in Sunday versus Tottenham Hotspur.

‘I am very happy. I hope I can play good for Newcastle and score many goals.’

Papiss Cisse is in a serious danger of being benched with Ayoze Perez in form. Was it luck or knowledge and ability? We 'll have to find it out in upcoming clashes.
