Muamba speaks about Gomis collapse

Fabrice Muamba admits he feared the worst when he learned that Swansea striker Bafetimbi Gomis had collapsed at White Hart Lane.

Muamba suffered a cardiac arrest while playing for Bolton in an FA Cup quarter-final at Tottenham's home ground in March 2012 and his heart stopped for 78 minutes.

The Trotters midfielder retired from football on medical advice just five months after the ordeal, but Wednesday night's incident - during which Gomis fainted during the Swans' Premier League match at Tottenham - brought back disturbing memories.

"I was busy trying to concentrate on my uni work - that takes priority nowadays - but I heard about Gomis through social media," Muamba, who is currently carving out a career in journalism, told the Daily Express.

"You are not sure of the full details but you can put two and two together and then it came out that he collapsed when no one was around him and, when I saw that it was White Hart Lane, I thought, 'Oh no, not that place again'.

"I tried to put all that to one side and just carry on with my work but it was very difficult."

Gomis, who has a history of fainting, went to ground as the players made their way to restart after Nacer Chadli gave Spurs a seventh-minute lead at White Hart Lane.

Tottenham went on to win the match 3-2 and afterwards Gomis took to Twitter to allay concerns over his health.

''I Wanted to reassure you concerning my Health, it actually looks much more scary than physically dangerous and I am feeling well now,'' he posted via his account, @BafGomis.

''I have been under a great deal of stress and fatigue due to my father health that requires me to go back and forth to France.

''I was disappointed that I couldn't help my team tonight but now everything is back In order.

''I also want to thank everyone for their support and get Well messages.''
