Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has confirmed Juan Mata's expected move to Manchester United after the clubs agreed a £37m fee on Thursday.
Mourinho said: "Things are going in a good direction. We have allowed Juan to travel and have the medical.
"The player deserves respect and to play and because the offer is right, we allowed him to negotiate."
The 25 year-old is set to arrive in Manchester on Friday to have his medical.
Mourinho also revealed that Basel winger Mohamed Salah will join the Blues from the Swiss champions in a deal worth £11m, subject to a medical and agreeing personal terms.
"We know he wants to come, he told me personally but now it is terms and medical he has to pass," added the Blues boss.
The 21 year-old Egyptian, dubbed the "Egyptian Messi", is set to become Chelsea's third acquisition of the January window following the arrivals of Bernard Traore and Nemanja Matic.
Salah made a name for himself by scoring twice against Chelsea in this season's Champions League and in the Europa League semi-final last year.
He is set to replace the departing Mata, who is reported to have said his goodbyes to his team-mates and staff at the Blues's Cobham training ground on Wednesday.
The Spanish midfielder, who has featured on 32 occasions for his country, cost Chelsea £32m from Valencia in the summer of 2011 and has struggled to establish himself as a first-team regular under Mourinho's stewardship. Mata has not featured for the London side since New Years' Day, where Mourinho's decision to substitute him away to Southampton brought an exasperated reaction from the Spaniard as Chelsea went on to win the game comfortably.
However, the impending move has sparked critical reactions from Manchester City and Arsenal managers Manuel Pellegrini and Arsene Wenger. With both clubs yet to play Man United in the reverse Premier League fixture while Chelsea have played the Red Devils twice and will not face them again in the league, the transfer has been seen as a way to build an advantage over Chelsea's two title rivals by reinforcing United, who are all but out of the title race.
