Scullion bags brace in Morton romp

Jon Scullion's double capped a fine second-half performance as Morton beat Elgin 5-0 in the first round of the Scottish League Cup.

It was a goalless first half at Cappielow, with Scullion and Ross Forbes pulling good chances wide before visiting goalkeeper Stewart Black denied the latter by reacting brilliantly to make the save.

Stefan McCluskey opened his account for the season when he fired home from close range after good work by Bobby Barr three minutes into the second half.

Denny Johnstone netted on his debut, finishing well inside the box 20 minutes later, before Scullion made it three with a finish into the bottom corner in the 70th minute.

Forbes was soon fouled en route to goal and he stepped up to convert the penalty (74) and Scullion's curling effort (83) capped a fine display for Jim Duffy's men.
