Paul Mullin scores the only goal as Morecambe sink Dagenham

Morecambe picked up a welcome home win with a narrow 1-0 victory over strugglers Dagenham.

Paul Mullin was the Shrimps' hero with the only goal of the game in the 31st minute that lifted his side to 13th in Sky Bet League Two.

Mullin was the quickest to react after his penalty was saved by Daggers goalkeeper Liam O'Brien as he stroked the rebound home at full stretch.

Morecambe had come closest to scoring before that moment when winger Tom Barkhuizen collected the ball deep in his own half and ran 70 yards into the Dagenham box before slipping a shot inches wide of the right-hand post.

Dagenham's only effort of note in a frustrating first period was a Joss Labadie shot that flew just wide of the right-hand upright.

Morecambe continued to look the livelier team in the second half with O'Brien forced into excellent saves from a dipping Mullin free-kick and a near-post Anton Forrester header.

Dagenham struggled to break free of a resolute Morecambe defence but had a great chance to level in the third minute of injury time when Jamie Cureton was left unmarked in the box but volleyed weakly into the arms of Morecambe substitute goalkeeper Tony Thompson.
