Manchester United's predicted starting XI for the 2014/15 Premier League season

13 August 2014 02:59

We are less than a week away from the start of what analysts are calling to be ‘A perfect premier league season’. Yes! It starts on 16th August with Manchester United hosting Swansea at ‘The Theatre of Dreams’.

United having fared really well in their pre-season tour in United States has given a new hope to their fans, which they almost lost last season, with all its credit going to Louis Van Gaal’s (LVG) basket. United lacked in defence and midfield last season and LVG has already tried to cover up the vacant spaces by making two important signings – Ander Herrera (from Athletic Club) and Luke Shaw (from Southampton). Ander has looked good and his confidence seems to have increased with every passing game. Luke Shaw on the other hand is yet to impress his boss with fitness.

Though United’s woes will not go with just two signings, as United has lost a full back line with the departures of veterans Nemanja Vidic, Rio Ferdinand and Patrice Evra this season. United need to sign at least a good central defender, a containing midfielder and a winger. They are linked with many prominent names in the market, Angel Di Maria of Real Madrid, Marcos Rojo of Sporting Lisbon and Daley Blind from Ajax are more noticeable amongst them.

Having just Ander Herrera and Luke Shaw newbies in the team and Carrick been sidelined with injury, here’s my predicted starting XI this season as it stands now:-

De Gea, Smalling, Jones, Evans, Ashley Young, Ander Herrera, Carrick, Luke Shaw, Mata, Rooney, Van Persie
