Manchester United set to make shock move for Arsenal contract rebel

Louis van Gaal's Manchester United have been tipped to make a move for Arsenal and England winger Theo Walcott after the players future under Arsene Wenger was thrown into doubt.

26-year-old Walcott has been involved in protracted contract talks with Arsenal as he looks to extend his current deal of £90,000-a-week, but an agreement between the club and player looks to be anything but close.

Liverpool, who had been strongly linked with a move for the international winger the last time he entered contract talks with the Gunners, have once again been touted to swoop for Walcott. But if today's reports are to be believed they'll face stiff competition from United.

Louis van Gaal is thought to be interested in signing the Southampton youth product and is keen to have him on board at Old Trafford for the start of next season. Walcott was also recently forced to publicly deny a rift with current boss Wenger.

Walcott has seen his Arsenal career stall since his return from a lengthy injury and in no longer first-choice for the Gunners starting XI, meaning although he'd like to stay in north London, the prospect of regular first team football would be tough to pass up.
