Manchester United send scout to watch Valencia star Nicolas Otamendi

According to Valencia based paper Super Deporte, Spanish based Manchester United scout Carlos Ruiz watched Valencia’s 4-0 thrashing of Elche on Friday night. It turned out to be quite a successful trip as Otamendi got in on the scoring action with the final goal in the 92nd minute.

A top class defender has been top of Manchester United’s shopping list for at least two transfer windows now and with the interest in Mats Hummels seemingly not being reciprocated Otamendi would certainly be a fitting alternative. The Valencia man is also a cost effective option should the Red Devils look to spend elsewhere possibly in midfield or up front where Radamel Falcao and co aren't inspiring any confidence.

Super Deporte also reports that Manchester United did bid for Otamendi in the previous window but the bid did not match Valencia’s valuation of the 27 year old however if ever there was a statement of intent it is exactly what Manchester United have given and it’s looking a lot like the Argentine will be at Old Trafford next season.
