Manchester United limber up in car park before Northampton test

Manchester United's expensively-assembled squad geared up for their E FL Cup clash at Northampton on Wednesday night with a stretching routine in a car park.

Images of Jose Mourinho watching on as his players limbered up in unusual surroundings ahead of their meeting with the League One side gained plenty of attention on social media.

However, Press Association Sport understands it was not a training session. As is the case for most away matches, they had gone for a walk and had a stretch before the game.

Mourinho and United will be out to avoid the ignominy of a fourth straight loss - and at the hands of lower-league opposition to boot - after successive defeats to Manchester City, Feyenoord and Watford.

The Portuguese had come under fire following that run and will be tempted to ring the changes for the third-round tie.
