Manchester United’s rebuilding plans could just be about to kick into gear as they close in on the first of their summer targets.
Reports in today’s press relate that Sporting Lisbon may be prepared to listen to offers for their 21c year old midfielder William Carvalho. The Portuguese club’s stance is thought to be about to soften after they identified Estoril’s Goncalo as the player they want to take Carvalho’s place. Estoril are reported to be looking for a mere £410,000 for Goncalo, so Sporting will look to pocked a hefty profit on any Carvalho sale.
Angolan-born Carvalho has reportedly been on the David Moyes radar for some time, and reports relate that he has sent scouts to watch the player no less than eight times. That said, United will be keen to negotiate down the release clause price in arvalho’s contract. The deal still has four years to run, and the buyout stands at an eye-watering £37.5million for the Portuguese international.
From Sporting’s perspective however, although they may now be prepared to deal, with other big clubs such as Real Madrid and Barcelona exhibiting interest in the player, they’ll be keen to extract the maximum they can for their asset. Any deal to take the player to United may have moved a step closer, but there’s still a way to go before any deal is secured.
