Manchester City's new paradigm

In a solid presentation, Manuel Pellegrini’s Manchester City showed ’80 minutes of an almost perfect performance against an unclear Liverpool side. Citizens seem to have gained a lot of defensive discipline with the incorporation of Fernando, but lost a lot of Fernandinho’s offensive mobility. This mobility is going to be replaced by both wing back’s forward runs, and since they are coming up from behind, this makes Citizens attack a little slower.

But in no case slower means less effective, the enormous quality of their attackers has what it takes to open every defensive system, and if Jovetic manages to play more than he did last year, I dare to say that we are going to be in presence of an even more efficient attacking team in comparison to what we saw last year. The Serbian forward seemed to be more awake than any other player in the field.

Only some problems on defence, most of them featured by Martin Demichelis, allowed Liverpool to complicate Citizens evening at Etihad.

On the other side of the road, Liverpool attacks seemed to lack weight, and the big number of reinforcements, although necessary for competing in Europe without leaving the Premier League, is going to need time to become into a fluid and coordinated team like the one they had last year. Next articles I going to be writing about Rodgers’s men and their process of becoming a team.
