Man United to raid Everton for defender

Reports in the Daily Star suggest that a loan deal that will release Adnan Januzaj to play for the Toffees until the end of the season could provide leverage for United to bring Seamus Coleman to Old Trafford.

The right-back who is thought to be worth around £25million is very much in van Gaal’s thinking as he seeks to strengthen the backline ahead of a push in the second half of the season. United were supposedly interested in the Republic of Ireland player and were willing to send back Marouane Fellaini as a sweetener in the summer.

The 26-year-old from Killybegs has been with Everton since 2009 after moving from Sligo Rovers were he started his association football career. His 2013-14 season is considered his finest to date with six league goals and being named in the PFA Team of the Year, Everton player of the year and being hailed by Martinez as one of the best full-backs in the world.

Coleman signed a five-and-a-half year contract with Everton in June 2014 and you would think that any move would be extremely difficult and expensive to achieve and really unlikely to happen in January.
