Man United on red alert: Cavani wants in on the Premier League

The curious case of one of the most expensive strikers in world football could also go down as a cautionary tale of what can happen when you have bigger stars who share a preference for the same position. At PSG that bigger player is of course Zlatan Ibrahimovic, a man known for having an ego that would hardly provide much wriggle-room for even the most self-absorbed of footballer.

The Independent has reported that the player as informed his agent to find him a way into the Premier League this summer which could say the paper spell the end of Rooney’s career at Old Trafford. PSG themselves insist that the most expensive player in French football history is not for sale says the report but if the player wants to leave there will be little PSG can do about it.

For Napoli Cavani was a goal-scoring machine, netting 104 goals in just 138 appearances and whilst 25 in 43 for PSG is good you wonder what might have been if he wasn’t stuck out in a wide position as part of a 4-3-3.

The Uruguay hitman also barely registered at the World Cup with just a solitary penalty to show for four World Cup starts and now looks to be looking for an exit from PSG and a birth possibly at Manchester United or Chelsea. Quite what his fee will be considering he was sold to Paris Saint-Germain for £56m last summer remains to be seen and its unlikely their would be much appetite to even match that figure in the Premier League.

The paper suggest via Le10Sport the Red Devils may be amenable to a swap deal with Wayne Rooney, suggesting that PSG would match his personal terms of 300k-a-week especially with van Persie looking to like take a more senior role at the club with the captaincy. Despite Chelsea’s previous interest in the player they have since signed Costa leaving United as the only other interested party.
