Manchester City began their pre-season tour of America with a comfortable 4-1 victory over MLS champions Sporting Kansas City at Sporting Park.

Argentinian Bruno Zuculini opened the scoring early on for the Premier League champions before CJ Sapong equalised on the half-hour mark, but a goal from Dedryck Boyata just before the break put City back in front.

Aleksandar Kolarov made it three with a penalty midway through the second half and Nigerian striker Kelechi Icheanacho, who has been training with City for the past few weeks, claimed their fourth at the death.

Andros Townsend scored a late winner as Tottenham claimed a 3-2 victory against Toronto FC at BMO Field.

Erik Lamela had netted a first-half brace for Spurs before the home side came back with goals from Andrew Wiedeman and Jordan Hamilton. Second-half substitute Townsend struck the winner with five minutes remaining.

Liverpool suffered a 1-0 defeat to Roma at Fenway Park, home to the Boston Red Sox baseball team, following a last-gasp goal from Marco Borriello for the Serie A side in the Reds' opening match of their US tour.

Aston Villa impressed as they recorded a 2-0 victory over the FC Dallas. Andreas Weimann struck at the end of the first half and Charles N'Zogbia doubled the scoreline just after the break at the Toyota Stadium.

Crystal Palace were held to a 2-2 draw against the Columbus Crew in Ohio.

The Eagles fell behind to an Adam Bedell header before Glenn Murray and Jake Gray scored each side of the break to give the Premier League side the lead, but Daniel Paladini's late equaliser denied them victory.
